In January 2025, Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost shared a ride to the Moon on SpaceX with Japan iSpace’s Resilience.
Blue reached the Moon first on March 13, 2025 and Firefly Aerospace became the first private lander to successfully land on the Moon.
Intuitive Machines landed a few days later, near the bottom of the Moon, but its machine stopped working on landing.
iSpace’s Resilience landed near the top of the Moon on June 6, 2025 and like Intuitive Machines, Resilience lost communication on landing.
Astrobotic’s Griffin Mission One is the next private lunar lander scheduled to land in the Moon South Pole towards the end of 2025.Griffin-1 will carry Astrolab’s rover FLIP which will be used to research the so far unexplored Moon South Pole.
Scientists expect that research on the lunar volatiles in the Moon South Pole will help us understand the history of the solar system.
